Specifications include, but are not limited to: Identify or evaluate impaired occupational therapists or occupational therapy assistants. The Board defines ‘Impaired’ as the inability of an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant to practice occupational therapy with reasonable skill and safety to patients by reason of illness, inebriation, excessive use of drugs, narcotics, alcohol, chemicals, or other substances, or as a result of any physical or mental condition. Receive and evaluate reports of suspected impairment from any source. Intervene in cases of verified impairment. Refer impaired occupational therapists or occupational therapy assistants to treatment programs. Monitor the treatment and rehabilitation of impaired occupational therapists or occupational therapy assistants. Provide post-treatment monitoring and support of rehabilitated impaired occupational therapists or occupational therapy assistants. Provide periodic reports to the Wellness Committee regarding impaired practitioners’ progress or compliance with the Wellness Program.
