ALDOT is seeking assistance with gopher tortoise burrow surveys related to compliance with Section 7 of the Endangered Spedies Act. Burrow scopes are used to inspect gopher tortoise burrows that can span up to 40 feet long in depth for occupancy. These scopes are used by ALDOT to quantify gopher tortoise populations on Chunchula Gopher Tortoise Conservation Area and determine burrow occupancy along ALDOT'S Right-of-Way (ROW) for trapping and relocation to Chunchula. We are requesting to enter into a services agreement with this Vendor. This camera system is unique because it is designed specifically for gopher tortoises. Due to the lengthy nature of the burrows, no burrow cameras are made to view the entire length of a burrow for occupancy verification purposes. This monitor that shows camera feed in real time. The system allows the 40 ft to be investigated for gopher tortoises with minimal disturbance, whidh is important because gopher tortoises are protected species.
