The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has experimented with connected vehicle (CV) technology for several years in their testbed located in Anthem, Arizona. In an effort to bring that experience and technology to a more urban environment, MCDOT is proposing a pilot CV project utilizing known transit and freight routes within the metropolitan Phoenix area. This effort, the “Intelligent Transit and Freight Signal Priority Project” (iTSP), will outfit three separate roadway corridors with CV technology at existing traffic signals and corresponding equipment on transit and freight vehicles. With this equipment in place, the project will utilize the Multi-Modal Intelligent Traffic Signal System (MMITSS) traffic signal priority application to provide Freight Signal Priority (FSP) and Transit Signal Priority (TSP) and evaluate the impact upon freight and transit system performance over time
