Specifications include, but are not limited to: Sidewalks shall be 3,000-psi concrete, 4" thick, placed on 4" of compacted crushed stone aggregate base. However new base may not be required if the Engineer confirms that the existing subgrade and base under removed sections of existing sidewalks are adequate for the replacement sidewalk section. Where the existing subgrade or base is saturated or not compacted, it shall be removed and replaced with crushed stone aggregate. New sidewalks shall be a minimum of 5 ft wide. However, when replacement sections are poured adjacent to existing sidewalks, the width shall match the existing walks unless otherwise directed by the City Engineer. Sidewalks shall be formed and poured in accordance with the City Standard Details. Tooled joints shall be provided at intervals to match the width of the sidewalk. However, if the sidewalk is more than 7 ft wide, an additional center longitudinal scored joint shall be provided in the center of the walkway. Expansion joints shall be provided at intervals not exceeding 4 ft and at the interface with other structures. Sidewalks marked for removal and replacement shall be removed to the next full joint unless otherwise directed by the Engineer. Removal and replacement shall be made in rectangular shapes. No angles or corners are acceptable unless necessary for curves or transition areas. In no case shall a tapered or angled shape have a dimension of less than 6" in any direction unless approved by the Engineer. Removal shall include saw cutting straight lines.
