Specifications include, but are not limited to: El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument (Department) Request for Proposals (RFP) goal is to seek Proposers with two or more years’ experience operating a retail business selling souvenirs, preferably Mexican imports and folk art. The business and products must be in keeping with the historical and cultural niche of Olvera Street, a popular Los Angeles tourist attraction established in 1930. The current RFP, is for retail kiosks spaces known as center puestos. These sites are in the center of Olvera St. and vary in size. Many of the Olvera Street Merchants families have been a part of this site since 1930 and this is an opportunity to operate a historic puesto. The Department oversees commercial spaces on Olvera Street, special events, filming, and eight museums on 22 acres of parkland dedicated to interpreting the Los Angeles story by way of our large collection of artifacts tied to the City’s rich heritage. This RFP is specifically seeking merchants who have experience in the import and sales and of authentic cultural wares. El Pueblo is seeking creative merchants who can enhance the visitor experience. The visitor population consists of international tourists and local residents who come to enjoy the unique atmosphere of this historic site. There is great demand for “keepsake” as well unique merchandise that contains a theme or image of a travel experience, or an item that supports local culture. This RFP is seeking a specialty retail enterprise that enhances the overall experience of visitors, students, travelers, and local residents. The successful Proposer must be creative, energetic, and knowledgeable about the early history of Los Angeles, and whenever possible, the Proposer should integrate their product line with goods and services related to Los Angeles culture and history. The Proposer must be willing to successfully fund, manage and operate the business in a visually appealing manner.
