Contractor(s) shall provide sheep and/or goats only for grazing of vegetation at the specific grazing sites as coordinated with Regional Parks. Regional Parks will specify areas where sheep, goat, or mixed herd grazing is appropriate. Contractor(s) shall provide shepherds to attend the herd for the duration of the grazing activities, including overnight. In addition to shepherds, dogs will be permitted but must not interfere with park operations. Contractor(s) shall specify camp and staging areas, which shall be approved by Regional Parks. Parking lots and roads shall be utilized wherever possible. Contractor(s) shall ensure the shepherds located on site will not have campfires. Contractor(s) shall be responsible for transporting animals to the grazing areas and shall be responsible for the transportation, trailer, and all incidentals of the shepherds. Contractor(s) shall maintain trails and bridges free of manure. Contractor(s) shall provide all the necessary vehicles, equipment, and tools to appropriately manage the herd for the duration of grazing activities, including, but not limited to, portable electric fences and proper signage. Regional Parks shall provide laminated signs that shall be posted on the fencing along trails and roads within the parkways, as indicated by Regional Parks during the pre-inspection field visit. Signage will indicate the fence is electrified and includes the Sacramento County Park Ranger phone number and/or 311. Contractor(s) is responsible for ensuring all gates remained closed and locked at all times. Contractor(s) shall ensure animals are contained in fenced areas. Animals may be herded from one fenced grazing area to the next without the need for a fence, but this activity shall not interfere with park operations and shall be coordinated with 48 hours advanced notice with the Regional Parks Project Manager. Contractor(s) shall maintain all animals in good health and assess the vegetation in areas grazed for any vegetation that may be poisonous to the animals or other unsafe conditions. If the animals become sick and the Contractor(s) needs to leave an area before it is completely grazed, the Contractor(s) will return to complete the task with a healthy herd. Contractor(s) shall be responsible for the immediate removal of all dead animals. Contractor(s) shall be responsible for watering and watering infrastructure necessary for livestock operations within designated grazing properties. The Project Manager will identify known water sources where present, but is not responsible for ensuring water for providing a water source for the herd. Contractor(s) shall take every precaution to protect new or existing facilities within and adjacent to work areas. Damage to such improvements shall be the responsibility of the Contractor(s) and be immediately repaired to the satisfaction of the Director of Regional Parks or designated representative. These facilities include, but are not limited to, asphalt and decomposed granite paving, turf, gates and post and cable fencing. Contractor(s) shall clean up all trash and debris and the site shall be returned, as close as possible, to the condition prior to work being performed. Contractor(s) shall ensure that grazing areas are not overgrazed and that adequate vegetation remains to prevent soil erosion (approximately 800 to 1,000 lbs./acre residual dry matter).
