This program is to train employees on appropriate procedures for respirator usage. The training curriculum must include a comprehensive overview of the following: . California Code of Regulations Title 8 Section 5144 Respiratory Protective Equipment . Respiratory hazards encountered including but not limited to improper use, fit, maintenance, and their health effects. . Procedures/requirements for proper selection and use of • respirators • How to select different types of cartridges/filters and identify damaged, inadequate, or substandard items • Different types of respirators: APRs, EBAs, SARs, SCBAs, dust masks, etc. • Emergency use procedures, medical signs and symptoms limiting the effective use of respirators, and limitations of respirators • Proper use of respirators, care, and maintenance including but not limited to cleaning, disinfecting, storing, inspecting, discarding • Importance of seal check and how to resolve fit problems • General requirements of respirator use including: o Medical Approval for respirator use o Be clean shaven on the respirator’s sealing surfaces o Respiratory Training o Appropriate Fit Testing
