Consultant will be contracted to develop and implement three (3) MH Wellness Outreach events targeting Black, African and Afro-Caribbean community members. These outreach events will include two (2) mental health seminars and three (3) wellness activities such cultural cooking classes, live cultural music, entertainment, dance, poetry, yoga classes, art therapy classes, and other wellness activities as the Consultant sees fit. Seminars will cover mental health topics that are important to Black, African and Afro-Caribbean community members, (i.e. parenting, depression and anxiety, intergenerational trauma, suicide prevention, etc.) Light snacks and food will be provided at each event. The MH Wellness Outreach events will be held in a prime location where community members reside (i.e., View Park-Windsor Hills, Gramercy Park, Leimert Park, Los Angeles, Manchester Square, Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw, Ladera Heights, and Hyde Park, and South Los Angeles), to promote wellness. Resources and information related to stress management will be available throughout the day. There will also be resource tables from DMH and its contracted/legal entities that provide services to the Black, African and AfroCaribbean community. As part of this project, the Consultant will recruit licensed mental health professionals to conduct the seminars and provide mental health linkage and referral information pertaining to the services offered by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. This project hopes to engage the Black, African and Afro-Caribbean community and familiarize them with wellness and mental health techniques while at the same time, reducing stigma and encouraging community members to seek mental health services.
