Summary of Specifications:
Summary: Award for this RFP is contingent on Boulder County receiving a grant award from FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for its grant application “Boulder County Defensible Space for Individual Property Owners.” Launched in 2014, Wildfire Partners is a new program to reduce wildfire risk to residents residing in Boulder County’s wildland-urban interface (WUI). Boulder County and its partners plan to continue the program in 2015. The desired outcomes of Wildfire Partners listed in our grant application are 1) to reduce loss of life and property to wildfire, 2) to continue to be a national model, 3) to have our certificate widely recognized in the insurance industry, 4) to generate excess demand from homeowners (more than 600 applications), and 5) to help document the effectiveness of a comprehensive, long-term, community-based approach to increasing home survival. In this second phase, our proposal is to work with an additional 500 homeowners to reduce their wildfire risk by creating defensible space that meets or exceeds CSFS guidelines. The program also educates and encourages residents to reduce the ignition potential of their home because creating defensible space alone may not achieve our objective of reducing wildfire risk. One key component of Wildfire Partners is wildfire mitigation phone advising to help homeowners conduct wildfire mitigation and receive program benefits such as the Wildfire Partners Certificate.
