SUMMARY: The City of Edgewater is seeking a part time City Planner (.5 to .75 FTE) Edgewater is a progressive city of approximately 5,100 nestled in the middle of the Denver Metropolitan Area across from Sloan’s Lake. The Planner is responsible to the Community Services Director for the administration of the Planning Department and for the performance of such other functions and duties that may be required by law consistent with the City Charter, the ordinances and resolutions of the City Council and the directions of the City Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following list of essential duties and responsibilities is illustrative and not meant to be comprehensive. • Administers the City’s ordinances, Comprehensive Plan and all related policies. • Administers pre-application meetings, application sufficiency reviews, assesses major and minor development plans and develops staff reports/ recommendations as required. • Attends and participates as a staff liaison to Planning & Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustments and Appeals meetings. • Responsible for the processing of all site development plans. • Implements updates on City maps including but not limited to zoning maps, street maps and utility maps. • Performs regular analysis and provide recommendations for modifications to development codes and procedures, as well as, preparing draft revisions to zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations and the Comprehensive Plan. • Supervises all record keeping and filing protocol within planning department. • Responds to inquiries over the phone, through email or in-person in regards to planning and zoning questions. • Works with Community Services Director to budget for revenues and expenditures each and every year. • All other special projects that may be assigned by the City Manager or Community Services Director.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Certifications and/or Licensures: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Natural Resource Planning, Landscape Architecture, Community Development or related fields from an accredited college or university; minimum five (5) years directly related planning experience, preferably in local government, with two (2) years of supervisory experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret planning and building plans. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Emphasis on ability to work with people in difficult situations, including conflict resolution. REASONING ABILITY: The ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, including the application of principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems, and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The City is seeking someone with a solid background in municipal planning practices and procedures with the following knowledge, skills and abilities: • Knowledge of technical, practical and philosophical factors that influence urban infill development; and of the legal, economic, environmental and social aspects of community development. • Extensive knowledge of state and local planning, including current and long-range planning. • Demonstrated customer service skills. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CAD and GIS software.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: The majority of this position's duties are performed in an office environment. The Planner will make occasional trips to external locations experiencing exposure to weather elements and temperatures, construction site risks, and automobile travel. The ability to perform activities requiring substantial sitting, ability to lift and carry items such as office supplies and equipment on an occasional basis, as well as, visual and physical ability to work on computers for substantial amounts of time.
