2017-29 - Wilson Avenue Flood Mitigation Project

The goal of this project is to raise both roadway approaches to the existing Wilson Avenue
bridge over the Big Thompson River in order to prevent roadway overtopping in up to a 500-
year (0.2 percent annual chance) flood. The bridge itself is perched, doesn’t overtop, and
should have adequate capacity. Therefore, the bridge will not be modified and only the
approach roadway will be improved with this project. Although the purpose is flood mitigation,
the technical aspects of this project are primarily transportation and roadway design related.

The City of Loveland is requesting proposals from qualified engineering firms/teams to design
the above described project. The project is located at the Wilson Avenue crossing of the Big
Thompson River in west Loveland, south of U.S. Highway 34 (Eisenhower Boulevard). The
Wilson Avenue bridge coordinates are: 40.398123N, 105.110816W.
