Young people are witnessing their friends and loved ones die at an alarming rate due to acts of gun violence. In response, Denver is committed to ending violence among youth by merging the many efforts and resources currently available across the city, to tackle this issue more strategically. That is why Mayor Michael B. Hancock has convened the Youth Violence Prevention Action Table (YVPAT) – a conglomerate of youth, community and city leaders, to identify immediate and actionable items needed to support youth violence prevention efforts.
Youth Zone pop-ups enlist community organizations to coordinate and host weekly events within neighborhoods that have the presence of multiple risk factors and are experiencing higher rates of youth violence than other communities. Youth Zone events are popular universal prevention activities that not only support youth but support families and the entire community. can be an effective strategy to reduce youth violence.  
The goals of these events are to provide: 

• Opportunities to increase connectedness to family or other caring adults; 
• Create frequent and positive shared activities with parents and other caretakers;
• Increase positive engagement with trusted adults, and 
• Increase involvement in pro-social activities.
