The Colorado School of Mines (Mines) seeks Architect / Engineer qualifications for a Capital Maintenance (CM) project on campus at Brown Hall (BH) to replace a portion of the roof. Brown Hall houses classrooms, laboratories, offices and shop spaces. The roofing system on the older portion (east roof) of the building is over 30 years old and is beyond its useful life.
The roof system includes insulation, waterproofing materials, roof curbs, flashings and roof drains/scuppers. Deterioration of the roof is evident on roof curbs, flashings, and walk paths. Failure of these components has resulted in leaks and water damage. During the wet June of 2023, multiple roof leaks developed over an egress stairwell, and faculty offices.
This project will remove and replace the roofing system on the east portion of the building. This will include proper identification, removal, and disposal of asbestos containing elements, specifications for the proper details including roof curbs, flashing, and penetrations, as well as, the appropriate levels of roof insulation. This project will be accomplished in a single phase to address this continuous roof section. Per State requirements, a percentage of the funds will be used to improve ADA accessibility to bathroom sinks in an older portion of a building adjacent to Brown Hall.
Firms with demonstrated relevant experience, including at least two projects of similar size and complexity, are encouraged to apply. Relevant projects should be with local staff. The project delivery method is Design-Bid-Build (DBB). This project will be delivered in a single phase with a construction budget of approximately $1,000,000.
