Colorado Springs Utilities is requesting proposals from qualified Respondents with demonstrated experience in Water Bath Heat Exchangers. The selected Respondent will perform the work described in the attached Exhibit A - Statement of Work.
Utilities owns and operates the Propane Air Plant at 7723 N Carefree Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80922. The Propane Air Plant is a gas peaking facility which blends propane and air to bolster the gas supply system during times of high demand. The current plant operating capacity is approximately 1,400 dekatherm/hour and the design capacity is approximately 2,400 dekatherms/hour.
Propane is pumped from the tank farm to four (4) water bath propane vaporizers, which add heat to the propane allowing it to fully vaporize. This propane vapor is directed to the blending skid. Five (5) large reciprocating air compressors and three (3) diesel screw compressors provide process air to the blending skid. The propane and air are mixed in a precisely controlled ratio, and this mixture is injected into the North Station natural gas pipeline serving Colorado Springs.
Vaporizers 6, 7, and 8 are Aqua-Gas WB-H Series horizontal vaporizers which are Water Bath Heat Exchangers that hold 8,970 gallons of antifreeze. The antifreeze is heated using 11.6 million BTU/hr Webster Combustion Model JBE(X) force draft burners with high swirl combustion head. During operation the vaporizers can vaporize 8,759 gal/hr of liquid propane at an operating temperature of 180°F at 300 psig.
