This is a fourth-row thinning with logger select of approximately 267 acres of 23- to 33-year-old planted slash pine on John M. Bethea State Forest (SFI Certified Forest #NSF-SFI-FM-C0245755) in Baker County, Florida (see attached maps). Area One contains 244 acres, and Area Two contains 23 acres. Timber to be removed from the thinning area includes every fourth row and select trees in remaining rows to reach a target basal area of 70 square feet per acre. Timber to be removed in select rows will be harvested based on the following criteria: diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees shall be harvested first, followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees to reach the desired basal area. Leave trees should be evenly spaced throughout the sale area. The target basal area per acre and/or number of trees per acre can be adjusted by the Forester-In-Charge as needed due to variations in stand and site conditions. Sale boundaries are marked property boundaries, roads, firelines, or wetlands. Decks and skid trails are designated with blue paint on all blocks to be thinned. Property boundary trees are marked with white bands or property signs and are not to be harvested or damaged. Estimated volumes to be removed are 10,390 tons of pulpwood and 4,402 tons of chip-and-saw and better.
