The light/medium-duty Tow Trucks/Car Carriers or service trucks will patrol in the traffic stream within an assigned corridor looking for and removing any obstruction to traffic flow either independently or along with FHP or other Turnpike/FDOT crews. Required duties of the light/medium units include: 1. Clearing vehicles and debris from crash scenes as instructed with or without FHP presence, as directed by Contract Manager. 2. If possible, the staging of tow trucks/car carriers/wreckers, Road Rangers, and service trucks will be identified in advance of directed deployment. 3. Identifying and immediately relocating any disabled vehicles out of the traffic stream. Once the vehicle is relocated out of traffic, offering short term (5-10 minute) assistance for problems such as out of gas, jump start, flat tire, or overheated engine. Emergency gas should only be dispensed to inoperable vehicles that are out of fuel. Only provide enough gas (approximately 2 gal.) to allow the vehicle to drive to the next Service Plaza or roadway exit. Tow operators will log all activities by filling out an assist sheet (provided by FTE).
