WORK TO BE PERFORMED: I. Non-Commercial Thinning: 1. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies, and incidentals to perform all work necessary on the areas specified. All work under this Contract shall be performed in an organized, systematic manner to assure that entire units are treated. a. Use of motorized equipment other than hand-held equipment, such as power saws and brush cutters, shall not be permitted off designated roads in the project area without prior approval of the FSCOR. b. Work will not be permitted when, in the opinion of the FSCOR, excessive soil disturbance would result from equipment usage or road/trail damage would occur from vehicles gaining access to the project area. c. Unit boundaries are flagged with blue ribbon. Where a cutting unit is adjacent to a system road, the road is the boundary. 2. Improve the stands composition and quality. Trees of undesirable species, form, or condition will be removed from stand in a clumpy spatial distribution 30 by 30 foot spacing between groups. Trees up to 10 inches DBH are subject to removal. a. Leave tree species preference are as follows: PP DF ES LP SAF GF. Do not cut live WL or aspen. Leave all live and dead White Bark Pine. b. Trees will be spatially distributed in a groupy, clumpy spatial pattern. within a group trees shall be spaced 2 - 6 feet between boles. With 2 – 3 trees per group, contractor shall alternate between 2 trees in a designated group and 3 trees in a designated group allowing for 50% of the groups to have 2 trees and the other 50% to have 3 trees. Trees within clumps will follow same selection guidelines as listed above. c. Spacing between groups and individual trees can vary +/- 10 feet to select the best trees for retention.
