Conduct a feasibility study. The study will evaluate the use of a boiler heating system to keep critical areas of the power plant from freezing when the plant is not generating power. The City of Ames Power Plant uses natural gas fired boilers to generate steam for power production. When the boilers are operating there is enough heat generated to keep the building warm. When the plant is not producing electricity and the boilers are not running, alternative heating methods are required. The feasibility study shall determine how a boiler heating system can be used to heat the power plant. The consultant shall be responsible for preliminary sizing of the system and identifying possible areas on the property to locate the boiler system. The feasibility report shall include preliminary capital costs including installation, operation and maintenance costs, and identify potential environmental impacts from the system. The study shall be used to develop a capital improvements project for the power plant to design and implement a boiler system.
