Specifications include, but are not limited to: The intended purpose of this RFI is to allow all interested vendors to present industry solutions which are currently being used in the production of license plates. Printers must be specifically designed for license plate production and not modified to add this function. At this time, Iowa DOT is looking to gain information regarding the specific questions in this RFI and does not need a formal presentation of the printer or materials. 1. Following are simplified requirements for the products Iowa uses in producing license plates. These products are not part of this RFI, but are being provided as a basis for information to provide RFI responders know the materials that would be used in the printer. Iowa’s aluminum specifications for plates are: • Alloy: 3105-H-19 • Thickness: .022” +/- .0015” • Width: Standard Size: 12 1/8 “ +/- 1/32”; Small Size: 7” +/- 1/32” • Coils of 12 1/8” or 7” wide aluminum substrate shall be wound to a nominal weight of 2,200 – 3,000 lbs. The coils shall have 13” to 17” cores with an O.D. of not less than 48” and not more than 60”. • Aluminum will be pretreated with Bonderite M-CR 1430C. Iowa’s specifications for sheeting are: • High-definition reflective sheeting • Imbedded security features • Graphic sheeting • 12 and 1/16 inch wide )+1/32 of -1/16 inch) by 900 feet long rolls • Motorcycle dimensions – 6 and 15/16 inch (+1/32 or -1/16 inch) by 900 feet rolls
