In a continuing effort to implement effective, cost-efficient wildlife management practices on land owned by the State’s hunters and fishermen, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism is seeking competitive bids for a haying permit on Byron Walker Wildlife Area. One haying permit is being offered on +/-50.6 acres (6 fields), for a single cutting, by competitive bidding on a 5-year permit beginning in 2024. Prospective bidders must recognize that the Department is utilizing haying solely to further wildlife benefits on its land and management techniques may differ from the private sector. The State reserves the right to retire acres from this permit and/or manipulate the grass stand using fire or chemicals as necessary to control invasive species and brush.
