This RFA is issued by the Maryland Department of Health, Prevention and Health Promotion Administration’s Center for TB Control and Prevention (CTBCP) An Infectious Disease TB expert physician consultant is needed for the MDH CTBCP program to provide consultative services to all of MD local health department clinicians, private providers and others on TB diagnosis and treatment, including for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, and complex comorbidities. The consultant will review as necessary and /or requested, program policies, protocols, guideline’s, presentations, and other documents requiring expertise in tuberculosis. Assist in education and training for physicians and others. This position is federally funded through the CDC TB cooperative agreement. The position has been supported through the cooperative agreement since 2019 when the needs of LHD TB programs and the increasing complexities of diagnosing and treating TB patients prompted the need for additional physician TB expertise within the program. 3.1.2 The purpose of this RFA is to provide local health departments with TB Expert Consultative Services. The applicant will be expected to provide the following to all jurisdictions served by MDH CTBCP. 3.1.3 The State is issuing this solicitation for the purposes of contracting with applicants that can ensure the delivery of the following: 1. Act as a TB Medical Consultant representing the MDH CTBCP Program. The grantee serves as a liaison between CTBCP, Local health departments. 2. provides consultative services to community health centers, Federally Qualified health Centers, private or other providers (physician, PA/NP, nurse, administrator), internal medicine/ family medicine residents, and other trainees as appropriate. Education on the diagnosis and treatment of latent TB infection and TB disease provided through educational sessions, in collaboration with CTBCP. 3. Assists CTBCP in training and education for local health department tuberculosis staff and clinicians. This may include but is not limited to tailored training based on CTBCPprovided topics. 4. Communicates and documents consultations provided to CTBCP physician/nurse consultant staff. 5. The grantee provides specific technical support to CTBCP consultant staff on pediatric medications and dosing for children with TB, including assisting with consultation with private providers, pediatricians, and parents regarding TB infection and disease as requested by CTBCP consultant staff. 6. Assists in the review of Maryland TB guidelines, policies, and protocols upon request. Collaborates with CTBCP on educational activities based on identified needs. 7. Provides education and training to area hospitals or medical groups upon request as resources permit. 8. Review as necessary and /or requested, program policies, protocols, guidelines, presentations, and other documents requiring expertise in tuberculosis. 9. Available to LHD Health Care providers to discuss challenging patients and related concerns, new guidelines, and related research, etc. outside the context of formal reviews/ meetings with the goal of increasing and expanding the LHD medical workforce knowledge base. 10. Participate in the planning/preparing of CTBCP LHD TB physician meetings. 11. Participate with CTBCP surveillance and epidemiology staff in the review of data quality of reported assessment of state outcomes in achieving CDC indicators/ suggestions and making recommendations as appropriate. 12. Provide consultation with local health department physicians and nurses for complex patients, including multi-drug-resistant patients, and according to CTBCP protocols. 13. Participates in CTBCP staff meetings, case reviews, and workgroups. 14. Provides individualized assessment of complex patients in collaboration with CTBCP and LHD clinicians which may include travel to LHD TB clinic sessions.
