Specifications include, but are not limited to: Nursing Services Overview: 1. Assignments can vary, including the hours and location. The beginning and ending times of school days varies by school location. 1:1 Nursing staff may need to ride a bus to and from school (if applicable) and may also be needed if the student attends summer school, or outside of the school day for school-sponsored events. Health room nursing staff may need to provide services in multiple schools over the course of the assignment. 2. WCPS staff will review each of the students’ needs prior to modifying existing agreements. New student assignments may occur at any time when a student requires access to public education and has a qualifying medical need for nursing assistance. 3. Ideally, there is only one nurse assigned per student, but if there is more than 1 regular assigned nurse there still must be a substitute nurse identified at the time of the student/nurse placement. Substitutes are required should an assigned nurse be unavailable on any given day or part of a day. A nurse’s absence is not acceptable because by law the student must be able to attend classes. 4. The nurse will be with the student for the entire school day, including lunch and transportation as applicable to and from school; and, if needed, will include summer if the student goes to summer school, and any school-sponsored events. 5. Nurses assigned to health rooms may be reassigned as staffing needs change and work hours may change as a result of the school's hours.
