Specifications include, but are not limited to: To fulfill the requirements of Public Act 166, MDE seeks a contractor who: 1) promotes an increase in involvement of parents with a student with a disability; 2) has access to parents with a student with a disability in the state of Michigan; and 3). is knowledgeable about the laws, rules, procedural safeguards, problem-solving options, and other information as it relates to special education. MDE intends to contract with grantee The Arc Michigan to ensure MDE is able to continue to implement the findings effectively and consistently from the Special Education Task Force and to continue to have available the services that are currently being provided which include but are not limited to: • Maintaining an accessible website with information on special education issues including disability specific information • Training and learning opportunities offered to families across the state. • Connecting parents directly to a local mentor to address any special education related questions and assist with family needs. • Providing a support system for families through electronic and printed resource information, and referrals to local community resources
