Contractor Responsibilities: • Contractor shall provide all equipment, labor, non-state supplied materials, transportation, and all else necessary to complete the work under this agreement. • Any equipment used must have a flashing light that is visible from all directions while operating. • Bridge must be posted as closed during bridge maintenance activities. • Contractor is required to remove existing rail posts and properly dispose of them. • Each new post will need 2 holes field drilled. One hole to secure the W rail and one hold for the drive spike. Each post will have a pre-drilled hole to secure the post to the curb. • Posts may need ends to be cut for final fitment to the bridge. • All abrasions, drilled holes, and cut ends shall be thoroughly saturated with a field applied solution of 2% copper naphthenate supplied by the contractor. • Bolt projections exceeding 1” shall be cut off. Repair end of bolt by painting with an approved zinc-rich primer. • Upset bolt threads after final tightening. State Responsibilities: State is to provide rail posts and hardware as described below: • All Timber to be Douglas Fir Dense Select Structural FB=1750 PSI • All Hardware Shall be Galvanized Per MNDOT spec 3392 • All Bolts are to be ASTM A 307 unless noted in the specifications • All Timber Shall be Treated with Copper Naphthenate in accordance with the most current AWPA standards Rail posts are to replace existing rotten posts which is approximately half of the total existing rail posts. The rail posts to be replaced have been marked with blue paint. Attached are the specifications with the engineering bridge drawings. (see page 26)
