Approved Towing Services - Minimum Requirements Towing service providers must at all times meet the specifications in Classes A, B, C and D in the Tow Truck Classifications listed below and all other requirements in this policy to be eligible for inclusion on the List. Tow Truck Classifications Class A For towing passenger vehicles, pick-up trucks, and small trailers. This classification shall include wheel lift and carriers. Tow truck chassis shall have a minimum manufacturer’s capacity of 14, 500 lbs. GVWR. Carrier chassis shall have a minimum manufacturer’s capacity of 18,000 lbs. GVWR. Boom capacity of not less than 8,000 lbs. and individual power winch pulling capacity of not less than 8,000 lbs. Wheel lift or under lift capabilities and two dollies for use with AWD vehicles. Four (4) safety chains for securing vehicles to bed. Carrier bed shall be a minimum length of 19 feet, with a minimum width of 84 inches. Tow truck must be able to enter parking garages of Streets of St. Charles, Ameristar Casino, City of St. Charles Parking Garage, SSM Health Urgent Care, St. Joseph’s Hospital and any other parking garages, above or below grade, with the ability to tow vehicles out of the parking garage facility. Class B For towing medium-sized trucks, trailers, recreation vehicles, etc. Tow truck chassis shall have a minimum manufacturer’s capacity of 26,000 lbs. GVWR. Boom capacity of no less than 24,000 lbs. Wheel lift or under lift capabilities. Class C For towing large trucks, road tractors, buses, fire engines, etc. Tow truck chassis shall have a minimum manufacturer’s capacity of not less than 52,000 lbs. GVWR. Boom capacity of no less than 50,000 lbs. and (2) individual power winches with a pulling capacity of no less than 25,000 lbs. per winch. Wheel lift or under lift capabilities. Air brakes so constructed as to lock wheels automatically upon failure. Class D Large equipment, Heavy Recovery, buses, fire apparatus Tow truck chassis shall have a minimum manufacturer’s capacity of not less than 66,000 lbs. GVWR. Boom capacity of no less than 100,000 lbs. and two individual power winches with a pulling capacity of no less than 50,000 lbs. per winch. Wheel lift or under lift capabilities of 45,000 lbs. retracted and 15,000 lbs. extended. Rotating boom to lift from side of tow truck Air brakes so constructed as to lock wheels automatically upon failure.
