Please note: This is a Sole Source Notification. Ankom Technology is a sole producer and distributor of the Ankom Fat Extraction System. The feed laboratory relies on this extraction technology for the screening analysis for crude fat in pet food and livestock feed. The Feed Control Laboratory uses the Ankom XT15 for fat extraction in animal feed. The Ankom system was selected because of its ability to analyze 15 samples per batch, up to 150 per day, and the use of filter bag technology. The Scientists that perform the crude fat analysis using the Ankom fat extraction methods are experts. They utilize this instrumentation weekly, passing laboratory control samples each time a batch is ran, and passing proficiency tests using Ankom instrumentation monthly. This quality control testing is required by the Feed Control Laboratory’s accrediting body for ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is the international standard for testing laboratories.
