OSHA requires that eye protection must comply with either of two consensus standard incorporated by reference in OSHA’s eye protection standard at 1910.133(b). These are Occupational and Educational Personal Eye and Face Protection Devices, ANSI Z87.1-1989 and ANSI Z87.1-2003. The ANSI Z87.1 standard, requirements for the design, construction, testing and use of eye protection devices. It included minimum requirements for: • Protection: Adequate protection from the hazards the device is designated to protect against. • Comfort: Reasonable comfort • Fit Secure fit that doesn’t interfere with vision or movement • Cleaning: Easy to clean and can be disinfected in needed • Durability: Durable • Prescription eyewear: Can fit over or incorporate prescription eyewear.d
