Summary
The City of Auburn Hills is seeking quotations for trees and planting services to be performed within the
South Campground of the Hawk Woods Park, 3625 Bald Mountain Road, Auburn Hills 48326.
Background Information
The South Campground is a future tent camping area which is located 700 feet south of the main entrance
to the Hawk Woods Park, which is at 3799 Bald Mountain Road. While it is not currently signed, the address
for the South Campground is 3625 Bald Mountain Road. The driveway to the site is 11 feet wide and the
ground can be soft along the edges when ground moisture is high, especially after recent rainfall. The main
area is usually load bearing for a standard 4x4 pickup truck. Installer should verify ground conditions before
driving equipment close to the lower edge.

Scope of Services
• Trees shall be nursery grown, well formed, true to species, with vigorous root systems, free from
disease, pests and insects and free of defects such as sun scald, windburn, discoloration, irregular
branching or injuries
• All root balls shall equal or exceed the standards as set forth in the “American Standards for
Nursery Stock”
• Contractor will ensure that tree pits meet or exceed the industry standard minimum size and
width, and include any guying and staking requested by the City
• Trees shall only be planted in pits that adequately drain well. Pits which do not drain well shall be
further excavated to a depth sufficient for drainage to occur and/or backfilled with suitable
drainage gravel
• Contractor is responsible for removing any spoils or debris that is a result of contractor activity
• Contractor must call in a Miss-Dig for the site and exercise all due care and caution to mark and
avoid underground assets, please note that there is a utility cleanout at the south end of the
planting area
• Contractor shall warrant all trees for 12 months and replace any dead or dying trees at no cost
• Installation shall occur within 30 days of the issuing of a Municipal Purchase Order
• Payment terms are Net 30 upon completion of the work and acceptance of the work by the City
• Contractor shall provide the city with proof of liability and workman’s compensation insurance,
with coverage levels acceptable to the City
• Contractor will conform to any municipal code requirements, state or federal laws or regulations
Substitute Products
Equivalent or nearly equivalent products will be considered, with primary consideration to proposals that
most closely match the items described in this document
Quote Preparation & Submittal
• Quotes can be submitted on the contractor’s own forms or letterhead
• Contractors unfamiliar to the City may be asked to provide background and qualifications
• The site can be inspected during normal park hours which are 7 days a week from 7am until dusk
• The chain across the driveway is not locked, and can be opened to access the site
• Interested bidders shall notify the City by e-mail prior to a site visit so park staff can be informed
• No formal pre-bid meeting is required, and it is not necessary to visit the site
• Not visiting the site is at the contractor’s own risk and shall not be grounds for any additional
charges or changes to the proposal once a purchase order has been issued
