The City of Jackson is currently inviting qualitied consulting firms to submit proposals for engineering services required for trail design and construction engineering along the Martin Luther King Equality Trail from Weatherwax to Merriman and the Woodsum connector to the Elmdale path. Construction will occur in multiple phases with the segment from West Avenue to Prospect Street funded with a FY 2022 MDNR Grant, from Prospect to MLK Jr Dr is funded with STBG funds in FY 2024, from MLK Jr Dr to Merriman along with the Woodsum Connector is funded with STBG funds in FY 2025, from West avenue to the Optimist Shelter has a grant request for FY 2023 submitted to the MDNR and the final segment from Weatherwax to the Optimist Shelter is yet to have a funding request with the MDNR made but is anticipated for FY 2024. The construction contracts with a grant from the MDNR will be let by the City of Jackson and the projects funded with STBG will be let by MDOT.
