Summary of Specifications:
The City of Ypsilanti is requesting proposals for a City-wide tree inventory, tree canopy cover analysis, development of an Urban Forestry Plan, and City sign inventory. These projects are intended to expand the City’s capacity to care for its urban forest and inform the process of developing a tree nursery to provide ongoing stock for street tree and parks/open space tree replacement. A previous inventory was completed in the early 2000s. Since that study, replacement and pruning programs have been reduced in accord with the decline of the City’s parks and tree budgets. Natural occurrences such as severe storms and the Emerald Ash Borer have also affected the condition of the City’s urban forest. The City lacks a formal process to encourage residents, businesses, and others to donate and/or plant replacement trees. The City hopes to formalize a process for this, as well as find a long-term means to sustain the tree nursery which is expected to be installed by the fall of 2011.
*THE CITY EXPECTS TO COMMENCE INTERVIEWS WITHIN ONE WEEK FOLLOWING RECEIPT OF RESPONSES*
