B. Felling Requirements (All units) Cut trees shall be completely severed from the stump. No hang-up "straps" will be permitted. 2. All felled trees shall be severed below the lowest live limb. The maximum stump height shall be 4 inches above ground level, as measured on the uphill side of the tree and all stumps shall be flat cut. 3. Cut trees shall be felled parallel to each other and not criss-crossed or jack-strawed. 4. Cut trees shall be felled away from unit boundaries into the units, roads, maintained trails, wildlife trails, fence lines, established land corners, and streams. Any trees felled on such areas shall be removed. Old roads that are closed can have cut trees fell across them. This will be on a case-by-case basis. 6. Bearing, section-line, or trail-blazed trees shall not be cut. Unit boundary trees with unit flagging can be cut if determined to be excess. 7. Snow damaged, bent over trees will be cut. 8. Cottonwood, birch, aspen trees, and other hard woods shall not be considered as crop trees and will not be cut. 9. Contractor must directionally fell all trees away from property lines, residual leave tree’s, hiking trails, and open roads. 10. Leave all standing snags unless they create a hazard. Snags are defined as any standing dead tree, of any species, greater than 10” DBH and 20’ tall or taller. C. Slash Requirements (All units) 1. Thinning slash shall be confined within unit boundaries 2. Thinning slash shall be removed from all open roads, adjacent cut-and-fill slopes, and ditches. 3. Thinning slash shall be removed from all ephemeral and intermittent stream channels and wet areas that carry seasonal water. 4. If site specific lop and scatter has been approved by the Contract Supervisor, slash accumulations must not exceed 2’ feet, and slash will be cut into lengths of 5’ feet or less. Comment by Ellingson, Gary: Similar to above.. 5. All slash shall be pulled back 10’ feet minimum from open roads, unit boundaries, and existing hiking trails. 6. All trees less than a 10” diameter at breast height shall be felled. Leave all hardwoods, ponderosa pine, healthy western larch, and western white pine.
