The Township is seeking to improve the pedestrian safety, experience and economic vitality within the downtown. The Special Improvement District prepared a Capital Improvement Plan, completed in 2023, that outlines a series of streetscape improvements within the SID. Then, in May 2024 the Township’s Consulting Engineer prepared a “Transportation Improvement Study” titled “Pedestrian Improvements – Eastman Street” (Eastman Street Pedestrian Improvements). This study is focused on the pedestrianization of Eastman Street and pedestrian improvements on North Avenue between Miln Street and Union Avenue. This study was presented to NJDOT during a Pre-Application Conference. The Township is now seeking to advance the improvements outlined in the Capital Improvement Plan to Schematic Design (roughly 30% Plans).
