The City of Farmington is seeking a creative developer, hotelier, restaurant, or retail entity to activate a prime piece of riverfront property next to the Farmington Museum. This site also fronts Main Street as a part of the major retail corridor in Farmington, seeing over 36,000 cars per day. The Animas River Trails System is also expanding to connect to this site and interconnect with the existing 8+ mile trail system. The master plan of Gateway Park includes numerous amenities and attractions in addition to the Museum and the riverfront Terrace. Phase 1a to the west of the Museum is under construction now and includes a Market Pavilion (see Appendix B), which will host events such as the Growers Market, art/craft fairs, cultural events, weddings, and other community events. Additionally, a berm seating amphitheater is being constructed between the pavilion and the riverfront and will serve as a venue for live music, performing arts, and other programming. A state-ofthe-art adjustable river “wave” feature is also being installed directly behind the park where the public can surf the Animas River (see Appendix D). This project has been approved for construction by the City Council and is slated to begin construction this winter.
