MATERIALS:
a) Materials: Except as provided on a Project Specific basis, Owner shall furnish only materials permanently incorporated into the project. Contractor may be required to provide materials on at a cost basis plus a markup, as required. Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating delivery of all necessary materials. RFB- 2466 Culvert Construction Page 17 of 34 12/01/2022 b) Stone Bedding shall be #1 and #2 blended stone. c) Granular Trench Backfill shall be crushed gravel. d) Smooth Interior Corrugated High Density Polyethylene Pipe – Type A shall have integral bell and spigot joints with soil tight gaskets. Smooth interior corrugated pipe shall have a full circular crosssection polyethylene pipe, with an outer corrugated pipe wall and an essentially smooth inner wall. i. Fittings shall not reduce or impair the overall integrity or function of the pipe line and may be either molded or fabricated. e) Smooth Interior Corrugated High Density Polyethylene Pipe – Type B shall have corrugated couplings to match the pipe corrugations and the width shall not be less than 1/2 the nominal diameter of the pipe. i. Couplings shall be split coupling. Split couplings shall be manufactured to engage an equal number of corrugations on each side of the pipe joint. Smooth interior corrugated pipe shall have a full circular cross-section polyethylene pipe, with an outer corrugated pipe wall and an essentially smooth inner wall. ii. Fittings shall not reduce or impair the overall integrity or function of the pipe line, and may be either molded or fabricated. f) Galvanized Steel End Sections shall be in conformance with NYSDOT Section 707-10, and shall have toe plate extensions
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS: a) Construction details shall be in accordance with the Contract Documents, in accordance with the project proposal, or as directed by the Owner. b) Removal of Obstructions and Appurtenances i. Where shown on the Contract Documents, remove and dispose of existing culverts, storm drains, headwalls and appurtenances. ii. Removed materials and excess excavated materials become the property of the Contractor and shall be hauled away and disposed of at a site to be arranged for by the Contractor, and satisfactory to the NYSDEC and the OWNER. c) Pipe Laying i. All pipes and fittings shall be handled carefully in loading and unloading. They shall be lifted by hoists and lowered on skidways in such a manner as to avoid shock. Pipe and fittings shall not be dropped or dumped. ii. Inspect pipe and fittings before it is lowered into the trench. iii. All pipes shall be laid true to line and grade with bells upstream and shall have a full, firm, even bearing. No length of pipe shall be laid until the previous length has had sufficient backfill material placed and compacted to secure it firmly in place to prevent any disturbance. iv. Pipe shall be laid accurately to the lines and grades shown on the plans and/or as ordered by the Owner. Line shall be set by the Contractor and the required invert grades shall be provided adjacent to the stakes. v. Any section of the pipe system that is found defective in material, alignment, grade, joints, shall be satisfactorily corrected by the Contractor at no additional cost to the OWNER. d) Pipe Bedding i. The trench bottom shall be constructed to provide a firm stable and uniform support for the entire length of the pipe. A maximum of 6-inches of bedding shall be installed under the piping to provide a firm stable and uniform support for the entire length of thepipe. ii. Bedding material shall be worked under the sides of the pipe to provide satisfactory haunching of the pipe
