The Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) was designed to treat an average flow of 18.5 million gallons per day (mgd) and was upgraded to a secondary treatment facility in the early 1970’s. Digested primary and secondary sludge is pumped to the Sludge Blending Tanks in the Main Sludge Disposal Building for storage prior to dewatering. Currently, the City utilizes one centrifuge as its duty dewatering system. The WPCP also has two belt filter presses for use as a backup dewatering system. The presses are scheduled to be replaced with up to two new centrifuges. This will result in up to three dewatering centrifuges on site for use.
