Fiberglass Rehabilitation work at the Beacon Pool. The Beacon Pool is located at the Park at The
Settlement Camp, 5 Camp Loop Road. The pool itself is 140 feet by 50 feet and progresses in depth
from 2 feet to 8 feet deep. Site visits must be scheduled prior to bidding through Recreation

BEACON POOL FIBERGLASS REHABILITATION SPECIFICS
• Resurface the public pool, i.e., walls, floors, and staircases, with a fiberglass finish.
• Pool to be drained, cleaned, and acid-etched with muriatic acid.
• The entire surface of the swimming pool to be ground.
• Remove all faceplates and repair all cracks and loose areas as required.
• After prep work, a custom-sprayed fiberglass liner will be applied to the entire interior
surface of the swimming pool, which to include the following:
o A primer coat is to be applied to the new shell.
o Once the primer coat is completed, the new surface will be sanded.
o White gel coat to be applied to the fiberglass to complete the swimming pool interior.
o New depth markers and accenting stripes on steps to be installed to comply with the health code.
Bid Option 1: Construction of 8' wide shallow-end stairs.

In addition to the fiberglass rehabilitation, the City of Beacon is posting a Bid Option 1: Construction of 8' wide shallow-end stairs. This would be a set of masonry steps with a center handrail constructed prior to and include in the fiberglass work. The Beacon Pool is located at the Park at The Settlement Camp, 5 Camp Loop Road. CONSTRUCTION OF 8' WIDE SHALLOW-END STAIR SPECIFICS
• Steps to be constructed on the narrow end of the 2’ section of the pool.
• Steps to be masonry in construction and installed prior to fiberglass rehabilitation.
• Alteration of current drainage gutter and existing fiberglass required to install new steps.
• Steps to be approximately 8’ wide with a center handrail installed.
• Step height, width, and depth should adhere to NYS Health Dept. regulations.

14.3 Steps. Design of steps shall conform to the following:
14.3.1 Step treads shall have a minimum unobstructed horizontal tread
depth of 10 inches for a minimum continuous width of 12 inches.
14.3.2 Riser height shall not be less than 7 inches nor greater than
12 inches. When the bottom tread serves as a bench or seat, the bottom
riser may be a maximum of 14 inches.
14.3.3 Step treads shall have slip-resistant tread surfaces.
14.3.4 Each set of steps shall be provided with at least one handrail
to fully serve all treads and risers.
14.3.5 Seats or benches may be provided as part of the steps.
