Summary of Specifications:
The Rochester City School District is committed to supporting enhanced Educational Technology and Infrastructure for the purpose of improving learning opportunities for our students. However, it is imperative that our students have home internet access if they are to achieve the maximum benefits of these opportunities. As such, the Rochester City School District will conduct a feasibility study for the expansion of internet access throughout the City of Rochester, with the goal of providing home high speed internet access to all students when they are off-campus. This study will identify all existing networks within the city, including cabling infrastructure and network components of multiple institutions including the school district, local municipality and the Monroe County library system. As part of this study, a gap analysis will be completed to identify what upgrades will be necessary by location, as well as the cost for such upgrades. Available funding sources to be utilized in the deployment of a City Wide Network will be identified, as well as revenue streams to sustain the expanded network. The study will commence with the inclusion of a phased timeline for implementation. This Citywide Wi-Fi project will result in free home internet access to students and community members.
