Summary of Specifications:
The Rochester City School District (RCSD) is seeking proposals from local universities, colleges, and community organizations for summer learning opportunities targeted towards English Language Arts (ELA) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) enrichment for grades K-8 students who reside in the City of Rochester. Priority will be given to proposals that: • Help students develop an appreciation and confidence in their ability to excel and succeed in school. • Encompass in-depth study and creative, hands-on learning that fosters higher order thinking, cooperative learning, and advanced problem-solving, thus addressing 21st century skills. • Target students that are low performing (levels 1 and 2 on NYS assessments in the areas of ELA and Mathematics). • Include parent involvement activities and workshops that enable parents to better assist their students in achieving academic success. • Incorporate meaningful field trips and the involvement of mentors. • Explore career pathways related to the area of study. • Have a strong plan for program evaluation of efficacy/impact. • Reflect an organizational partnership, including shared costs and continued relationship with RCSD. • Incorporate sustained opportunities for academic support throughout the school year. • Demonstrate effective evidence of past programs working with similar populations of students.
Programs must serve a minimum population of 50 students and meet for a minimum of 80 hours to be considered.
The selection will result in multiple awards of a 3-year district-wide requirements contract providing available funding exists.
Summer learning opportunities are defined as programs that take place primarily during the RCSD Summer Recess.
