Description

The purpose of this specification is to describe criteria for a ELTEC solar powered pedestrian crossing system using a Wrap Around Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RFFB). The system shall be designed to operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with the beacons flashing for up to 350 crossings per day. Dimming shall not be allowed during daytime hours. Dimming shall be allowed only during the evening or low ambient light conditions (FAA definition of nighttime).

A twelve (12) month solar sizing report shall be submitted to support the system design. The minimum array to load ratio (ALR) shall be 1.2 or greater, battery autonomy shall be 10 days, and the loss of load probability (LOLP) shall be 0.0% throughout the year.

The system shall consist of two poles with wireless communication between the poles for simultaneous activation of both poles when a pedestrian activates the RRFB from either pole. Median activation is optional based on the project specification.
