The existing department of social services building is a two-story steel framed structure (with basement), with brick clad cavity wall supported by cold formed metal framing. The exterior façade will be renovated to provide an appropriate and identifiable entrance to the building, providing entrance identification, signage, updated exterior lighting, and an additional (uninsulated) fiber cement panel rainscreen façade over the existing face brick masonry at the main entrances and Water Street facing building corners. There is an add alternate to provide additional fiber cement panel rainscreen coverage at the south building corners facing the canal
This project includes minor repair of existing CMU and brick exterior masonry, including repointing, as well as selective saw cutting, salvaging, and replacement of the exterior as required for general repair, spot cleaning, and installation of new façade, canopy and lighting components. Existing signage and lighting components will be removed and disposed of. Minor work will be required to repair the existing roof membrane, vapor barrier, and exterior as required to provide the fiber cement panel façade, and marquee style metal canopy at the main entrance. There will be custom metal signage installed at the main entrance and employee entrances.
