Specifications include, but are not limited to: Actual numbers of students receiving professional medical care services and the hours provided fluctuate during the year due to a variety of factors: the health of the student, IEP Team decisions, and relocations of students (enrollment and withdrawals). On occasion, staffing changes within agencies and parent requests for particular nurses or agencies may increase or decrease the number of students receiving services from a particular agency. Nursing agency will provide LPNs (or RNs) who are licensed by the NC Board of Nursing, CPR and BLS certified, and who are experienced in providing the type of nursing care that an individual student requires. Supervision must be provided for all LPNs. The nursing agency will provide LPNs (or RNs) who are skilled and experienced in meeting the medical needs of an individual student who requires services in order to ensure their well-being and safety during the educational day. In-person nursing care may be required during the following times: transport to/from school, during times that the student is on school grounds, during in-class instruction and activities, during PE and recess, during field trips and school-related events. Agencies may submit resumes of new nurses and names of returning nurses with their bid. Resumes of additional nurses may also be provided after award. Nursing services may include the following: ● Create a medical plan of care ● Follow physician-ordered treatment plans ● Implement physician-ordered clinical interventions including ventilator care, tracheostomy care, G tube care and feeding, for example ● Monitor and assess the mental and medical needs of the student ● Oversee the health status of the student including checking vitals/blood pressure, temperature, for example ● Address immediate medical needs of the student ● Assist with mobility, seating, and engagement as needed ● Manage medical equipment and technology ● Administer medications and treatments ● Change dressings, bandages and equipment as prescribed by physician ● Assist with self-care and classroom routines ● Assist with toileting ● Employ emergency care and contact 911 as appropriate ● Collaborate with family and medical providers ● Document treatment notes ● Complete and verify timesheets ● Follow NC Board of Nursing Practice Act including technical and ethical guidelines/statutes Nursing supervision of LPNs provided by the nursing agency to include: ● Annual skills checklist ● Monitoring and maintenance of the status of each LPN’s state nursing licensure ● Ongoing professional development ● Access to nursing support and information 7 days a week ● At least 1 in-person supervisory visit during the year ● Additional supervision or monitoring as required The nursing agency will provide: ● Proof of the agency’s registration with the NC Secretary of State ● Vendor form with accurate agency name and address ● Current and valid certificate of insurance ● Background checks for each nurse or the information required for these checks ● Monthly invoices with a unique invoice number along with copies of timesheets ● Names of LPNs available to provide nursing services (if available) ● Confirmation that each nurse has a valid NC driver’s license and a means of transportation to travel between WCPSS sites.
