This project will replace two Air Handling Units, AHU-1 and AHU-3 in the East Hospital Tower second floor mechanical room. AHU-1 is a 33,000 CFM dual duct unit serving the basement, ground, 1st and 2nd floor of the Tower. AHU-3 is a 12,500 CFM makeup air unit serving patient rooms on floors 3 through 9. These units will be replaced in a phased implementation beginning with AHU-3 in the summer/fall 2025. The hospital’s HVAC systems are required to operate continuously throughout the project, requiring the use of temporary packaged HVAC equipment located outdoors adjacent to the mechanical room to back feed the systems. The new air handling units will be fully custom knockdown or built-inplace units with mixing/prefilter section, hydronic heating and cooling coils, steam humidifier, supply air fan array with n+1 VFD and MERV 14 final filters. The Building Automated Controls will be upgraded as part of the project. The project will also include replacement of existing inline return air fans and intake/relief dampers which are located externally to the unit.
