Specifications include, but are not limited to: The State of Delaware’s Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families (DSCYF) is soliciting proposals from bidders who can provide community-based gang violence prevention services; DPBHS is the recipient of $130,000 of State general funds focused on gang violence prevention. These funds are to be used specifically to support prevention activities that are evidence-based or research-supported in preventing gang exposure and gang involvement of children ages 17 and younger. Services may focus on a specific target area (county, city, district, or zip code) or be offered in multiple sites or state-wide. To prevent youth from joining gangs, communities must employ multiple strategies and services, including: • Addressing elevated risk factors for joining a gang. • Strengthening families. • Improving community-level supervision of youth. • Providing training for teachers on how to manage disruptive students. • Providing training for parents of disruptive and delinquent youth. • Providing tutoring for students who are performing poorly in school. • Increasing adult supervision of students after school. • Providing interpersonal skills training to students to help resolve conflicts. • Providing a center for youth recreation and referrals for services. • Providing gang awareness training for school personnel, parents, and students. • Teaching students that gangs can be dangerous. • Providing training for school resource officers in mediating conflicts.
