Specifications include, but are not limited to: TSI 3088 Aerosols size measurements made using the Scanning Mobility Particle Spectrometers (SMPS) used at ICET need to neutralize aerosols to the Boltzmann equilibrium for the instrument to function properly. Radioactive sources and x-ray generating sources are used in SMPS systems for this purpose. Both are consumables over long periods of time and need to be replaced to ensure the effective functioning of the instrument. ICET currently uses radioactive sources as their neutralizing source. These neutralizers have a lifespan of 10 years, which begins immediately following manufacturing due to the decay of the radioactive material itself. This soft x-ray unit is being purchased to replace old radioactive sources which have exceeded (or near exceeded) their lifespan; in addition, these units also do not need to be disposed of as radioactive waste at the end of their lifespan and their lifespan is dependent on how much it is used. This unit is the only soft x-ray unit compatible with the TSI SMPS. TSI 1520 ICET has a need for a monodisperse aerosol generator with the ability to generate laboratory standard aerosols for the calibration of aerosol measurement instruments. These particles will need to generate at a known rate. These measurements rely on consistent generation of a specific particle size in order to ensure the accuracy of the measurements. The instrument must be able to produce droplets as well as both solid and liquid particles. A liquid droplet diameter of 15 to 90 μm; ±1.0% and a particle diameter of 0.8 to 8.5 (solid) or 12 (liquid) μm; ±1.0% are required. Geometrical standard deviations of less than 1.02 for droplets and 1.05 for liquid and solid particles are also required. The item must also contain a nonradioactive aerosol neutralizer. The unique technology of the FMAG will satisfy all of these requirements. TSI 3752 ICET needs to replace old model CPCs due to the unavailability of calibration services. CPCs are needed to work as part of an SMPS system, an particle sizing instrument that is considered a primary standard. Particle sizing is critical for contractual work performed by ICET.
