The Eugene J. Towbin Memorial Veterans Hospital (EJT) is part of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) and is located in North Little Rock, Arkansas, requires improvement of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PMRS). Approximately 16,000 square feet of the existing hospital space on the ground floor of the EJT will be renovated. This space is occupied by PMRS. The project is separated into two (2) separate projects. The first phase must be completed before the second phase can begin. The VA shall be given 30 days between phases to transition from one area to the other. The project is in an occupied and fully function hospital. The required renovation will incorporate Planetree principles, VA Space and Equipment Planning System (VA SEPS}, and will comply with all VA, National, State, and local codes to meet VA's guidelines for patient privacy.
The renovation will include demolition and removal of existing structures, furnish labor and materials, and to perform the work in accordance with the plans and specifications for project Improve Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. This project contains significant saw cutting and removal of existing on grade concrete floor slab. The contractor shall take all precautions and measures to minimize noise, dust, and mess during this process.
Contractor shall employ Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to verify slab areas to be saw cut and removed are free of existing utilities. Written reports shall be provided to the COR. Demolition and construction must be completed in one ward prior to the start of work in the other ward. Work will need to be accomplished in multiple phases and will require coordination with occupied operations in spaces alongside, above, and below the project area, to modify and/or install new engineering systems.
Construction shall comply with Veterans Affairs (VA) specifications and drawings as well as all applicable city, county, state, and federal regulations and codes and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Construction shall also comply with Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) Standards Class and other construction safety requirements as noted in the construction documents for this project. Lastly, construction shall also be in adherence with any new equipment manufacturer's installation specifications, shop drawings and instructions. The requirements for compatibility with existing or future systems/programs were addressed during the design phase by the contracted AE firm.
