*****THIS IS A COMBINED SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE AND NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE***.
BACKGROUND
NIST has maintained and operated six (6) deadweight machines (DWM’s) since 1965. Thousands of measurements, through countless force calibrations, have been performed over the lifespan of these machines. Our second largest machine has developed a problem with the compression platen positioning system. After disassembly, the problem was discovered that one of the four drive nuts was stripped and locked onto the mating shaft. As a result, a new matched set of 4 drive nuts will need fabricated and machined (the drive nuts must be the same, cannot replace just one drive nut as it will not match the other 3 in the set and cause binding issues as the wear patterns on the originals will conflict with the new gear
Contract Line-Item Number (CLIN) 0001: The Contractor shall provide four (4) bronze drive nuts
The product shall meet specifications identified above. All items must be new. Used or remanufactured equipment will not be considered for award. The use of “gray market” components not authorized for sale in the U.S. by the Contractor is not acceptable.
NIST conducted market research from November 2024 – December 2024 by, speaking with colleagues, performing internet searches, and speaking with vendors to determine what sources could meet NIST’s minimum requirements. The results of that market research revealed that only Billet Industries INC. (UEI: TYGGJ6187HY1) can meet the Governments minimum requirements.
