Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Authority is seeking professional engineering services to perform assessment, analysis, preliminary and final design, and design services during construction for components of the flocculation process at the Alfred Merritt Smith Water Treatment Facility (AMSWTF). Many of the mechanical and electrical components of the process are nearing the end of their useful life. There is little to no support available from some of the original manufacturers. Electrical equipment is now obsolete and unsupported. There are also opportunities for improvements in the controls and communication infrastructure in the area. The flocculation process at AMSWTF consists of an aeration channel, two mixing channels where ferric chloride, fluorosilicic acid, and a cationic polymer are added to the water, a flow splitter, and 10 flocculation basins, each divided into four stages. The basins discharge into a common channel that feeds downstream filters. Each mixing chamber contains two flash mixers and two rapid mixers. Weir slide gates control flow into the flow splitter and into each individual basin. Each flocculation basin stage has three separate channels, each channel with a single dual-impeller, low-speed agitator. Slide gates are used to control flow into the flocculation effluent channel. Two large rectangular butterfly valves control flow from the aeration channel into the mixing channels.
