Specifications include, but are not limited to: The purpose of this effort is to assess the feasibility of building a multi-use marine facility on the waterfront of the lower West Passage at the University of Rhode Island’s (URI) Narragansett Bay Campus (NBC), located at 215 South Ferry Road, Narragansett, Rhode Island 02882. The envisioned facility would consist of a constructed boat basin and adjoining shoreside facilities for education, research, collegiate sailing, public engagement, and efforts around the RI Blue Economy. Such a facility would open access to the Bay in ways that are not currently possible from the existing pier and shore at the NBC and would greatly enhance URI’s ability to serve the public. A critical part of this effort is gathering information to support an application to the RI Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) to reclassify the water type at the site from Type 2 (low intensity) to Type 3 or 4 (high intensity), which are necessary for such a facility.
