Specifications include, but are not limited to: Beginning in FY 2009, the Rhode Island General Assembly initiated the creation of a statewide transportation system for out-of-district special education and non-public school students under an amendment to Sections 16-21.1-7 and 16-21.1-8 of the General Laws in Chapter 16-21.1 entitled "Transportation of School Pupils Beyond City and Town Limits.” Section 16-21.1-9 of Chapter 16-21.1 specifically authorizes RIDE to outsource the management and operation of the statewide system to an outside consultant through a competitive request for proposal if deemed more efficient. RIDE currently provides home to school transportation services to roughly 3400 students in approximately 40 LEA’s (Local Education Agency’s). The statewide system is currently broken up into four zones. However, that will be changing beginning with this new contract cycle July 1st 2024 and moving forward. Below you will see the details of the new zones (the new zones are defined as: A1, A2, A3, A4)
