Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Rhode Island School for the Deaf is looking to renovate and improve an existing life skills room to include a new culinary teaching station/island that allows students to be face-to-face with the instructor to facilitate sign language communication while cooking. The existing galley-style kitchen would be modified to function as a storage pantry to the adjacent new teaching station. Teaching programs that will utilize the space include culinary, occupational/physical therapy and special education. The new teaching station will include areas for dishwashing, food prep, and cooking as well as a student observation area for six students. New work will meet ADA wheelchair accessibility requirements. Work will include new task lighting, cooking, ventilation and localized Ansul fire-protection system.
